Stewart, excellent post. Defining strategy is important to a company's success. As the HBR article states, strategy "generates a desired pattern of decision making." It's crucial to have a sound strategy in your company so that when times get tough or things do not go as expected, the people in the company know how to act and react in ways that will benefit the organization. This concept is driven home in the book "High Altitude Leadership" and is a powerful concept. (I reviewed this book on my blog today.) -Michael
